Looking for a great do it yourself deep conditioner and / or hot oil treatment? One that doesn’t require strange ingredients, and comes together easily within a few minutes? Your search is over. This deep conditioner / hot oil treatment will leave your curls soft, shiny, and touchable. I know, because I’ve been using this as my exclusive deep conditioner for over a year! And, it is also great for non-curly hair (just ask my mom!).
Homemade 3 Ingredient Deep Conditioner / Hot Oil Treatment
(Recipe can be doubled)
1/4 cup coconut oil
2 Tablespoons Extra Virgin Olive oil
5 – 7 drops essential oil (I’ve used lavender, grapefruit, and rose with success each time)
Stir the coconut oil in a bowl to give it a smooth texture. Add Extra Virgin Olive oil and mix well. Add essential oil and, again, mix well (if you don’t have any essential oil or would prefer not to use any, that’s fine!).
For deep conditioner: Starting with a dime size amount, work conditioner through damp hair, going from the roots to the ends. Let sit for 3 – 5 minutes. Rinse in the shower then shampoo & condition as normal. For an extra deep conditioning treat, leave on hair overnight: wrap wet, conditioned hair in a t-shirt or towel for a couple of minutes, remove t-shirt or towel then put hair up for the night. Rinse, shampoo, and condition as usual in the morning.
For hot oil treatment: Using a dime size amount, work through damp hair, going from the roots to the ends. Cover hair in a hot towel (fresh from the dryer) – or put on a shower cap and heat your hair with a blow dryer for a minute or so. Sit back and relax for 15 minutes. Rinse in the shower then shampoo & condition as usual.
Use once a week for beautiful, healthy hair!
+ Prepare deep conditioner at room temperature, in order to make mixing easier.
+ During warm weather, the conditioner will liquefy. Use as is, being careful not to use too much, or keep it in the fridge until ready to use.
+ Start with a dime size amount of conditioner and increase according to your head of hair. Just remember that a little goes a long way!
